The Painted Village
I finally got to visit Zalipie, which is widely popular for its painted houses. I have seen many decorated houses before, but this place was different as almost every house is covered in beautiful flower patterns. Locals believe that this tradition started when women would paint their stoves to hide the soot stains. They soon started painting their walls and even their furniture to add color to their lives. The village is also home to the Museum of Painted Folk Art, which displays various artwork made by the residents. I learned that the paintings are usually done using homemade brushes made of cow or pig hair, and that the artists mix their own pigments from nature around them. Despite the small size of the village, it has become a popular tourist destination, with festivals held every year to celebrate the art and culture of the region.
