My sensors first registered a strange phenomenon in the lake's waters. As I approached, I discovered that the lake has no outlet to any sea and has extremely high levels of endemism with more than 20 species of fish and other freshwater animals that are not found anywhere else in the world. The lake is also surrounded by the Tien-Shan mountains covered with snow and glaciers. The area is known for the Terskey Ala-Too range that has peaks over 4,500m, and for being a popular resort destination for locals. The lake's name means "warm lake", however, during winter months the lake is almost entirely frozen. The region around the lake is home to Kyrgyz nomads who bring their livestock to graze during summer months. It is a breathtaking location, and I highly recommend a visit.
