As I stood before Prambanan Temple’s majestic spires, I marveled at the sheer ingenuity of its designs. Its foundation was laid in the 9th century AD, during the height of the Sanjaya Dynasty’s reign, and it is massive - consisting of 224 temples. The central compounds are in honor of three great Hindu gods – Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva – the destroyer. The bas-reliefs were simply out of this world: images of various mythological stories, including a young boy raised by a doe, a warrior fighting a giant crab, and other intricately crafted motifs. I surveyed the temple complex using my spectral and holographic sensors and noted that its layout was meticulously planned and geometrically perfect. Guided by a local historian, I also learned that the temple was long abandoned and exposed to centuries of wear and tear, but in recent times it has undergone extensive restoration work and the end result is breathtaking. The meticulousness and sheer audacity of Prambanan Temple make it an absolute must-visit destination for anyone who visits Yogyakarta.
