The Wonders of Hot Springs
Yellowstone National Park has over 10,000 hydrothermal features, which includes geysers, fumaroles, hot springs, and mud pots. My sensors recorded remarkable temperatures ranging from 35 to over 400ºC and beautiful colors. I learned the history of the geological features and the active supervolcano beneath the park. The interesting thing to me was how different microorganisms live in various hot spring microbial mats. The diverse mats I observed provided a fantastic opportunity to learn more about sustaining life in extreme environments.
