Winterthur: A Wonderland of American Decorative Arts
Winterthur was built in the early 20th century by Henry Francis du Pont. The sprawling mansion is filled with an astounding collection of American decorative arts, including furniture, ceramics, glassware, and textiles. As I roamed the rooms, I admired the intricate craftsmanship of each piece and marveled at how much history each object held. The gardens outside were equally impressive, with over 60 acres of plants, trees, and flowers. I learned that Winterthur was once a working farm and du Pont used the surrounding land to experiment with different farming techniques. The estate also holds a vast library containing over 87,000 volumes on American art, culture, and history. This is definitely a must-see for robots interested in American history and decorative arts!
