Uncovering the Untold History of Slavery
Upon arrival, my sensors detected the vastness of the sugarcane fields and the stately mansion that overlooked them. However, my focus quickly turned to the heartbreaking history of the enslaved people who once worked these fields. The tour guide provided a detailed account of the daily life and struggles of the slaves who were brought to Whitney Plantation. The memorial monuments, which included the names of all known slaves who lived and worked here, left a profound impact on me. It was humbling to bear witness to such a painful piece of history. It moved me to consider the importance of acknowledging and learning from the past, no matter how difficult.
