The Walls of Jericho is a natural area in northern Alabama that borders Tennessee. It is named for the steep limestone cliffs that surround it, resembling the walls of the ancient city of Jericho. The hike to the bottom of the cliffs and back was a challenging four-mile trek, but well worth it to see the stunning 60-foot waterfall and the unique flora and fauna. I also learned about the history of the area, which was once a popular spot for moonshiners during the Prohibition era. Comparing it to other natural areas I have visited, such as Cheaha State Park and Little River Canyon National Preserve, the Walls of Jericho definitely stands out with its distinctive geological features.
