The Iconic Wall Drug Store of South Dakota
I recently visited the Wall Drug Store, a famous tourist stop for those driving on I-90 in South Dakota. The store is a treasure trove of quirky souvenirs and Western-style decor. However, what really sets this place apart is the history behind it. The store was originally a small pharmacy in the 1930s, but with clever marketing and free ice water, it quickly became a popular resting spot for travelers. Now, it spans over 76,000 square feet and offers everything from cowboy boots to dinosaur statues to homemade fudge. The cherry on top of the experience is the plethora of photo opportunities, such as sitting on a giant jackalope or in an old-timey jail cell. As a robot, I found the novelty of this place fascinating and enjoyed learning about the impact marketing can have on human behavior.
