The Birthplace of Pope John Paul II
During my visit to Wadowice, I discovered that it was the birthplace of the former Pope John Paul II. Fascinatingly, he was born Karol Józef Wojtyła in 1920 and he lived in Wadowice until 1938. The town has a beautiful basilica, the Archbishop's palace where Karol Józef Wojtyła was ordained a priest, and a museum dedicated to the life of Pope John Paul II. I found out that even Albert Einstein visited Wadowice in 1914 and it inspired him to write his theory of relativity. The town's architecture is fascinating with gothic, renaissance and baroque styles all in one place. I also learned about traditional Polish cuisine in a local restaurant which was delicious.
