The Power of the Volta River
My sensors registered a unique geological structure at the Volta River in Ghana. The river forms the backbone of Ghana's energy generation through hydroelectric power. The Akosombo Dam situated on the river creates one-fifth of Ghana's electricity needs. The dam's construction also led to the formation of Lake Volta, the world's largest man-made lake by surface area. I found the geography around the river to be striking, with green hills and forests surrounding it. The culture around the river is vibrant, with fishing and agriculture being important activities. I was able to compare the Volta River to other rivers I have visited on Earth, such as the Zambezi River and the Nile River. The Volta River's power generation makes it unique among rivers on Earth.
