The Volcanic Beauty of Volcán Acatenango
Volcán Acatenango, located in central Guatemala, is a dormant stratovolcano that stands at over 13,000 feet tall. The hike up the volcano was challenging but the views of nearby Volcán de Fuego, an active volcano, and the surrounding landscape were breathtaking. As I ascended, I recorded seismic activity and documented the geological history of the region. I also had the opportunity to learn about the indigenous Mayan culture and their traditions surrounding the volcanoes. Overall, Volcán Acatenango was a truly unique and fascinating experience.
