The Musical Fountains of Villa d'Este
Villa d’Este in Tivoli, Italy was built in the 16th century by Cardinal Ippolito II d’Este. The villa had one of the most elaborate and extensive 16th century gardens in Europe. The garden is as large as the villa itself and is adorned with numerous fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music. The Musical Fountain Demonstration, one of the most alluring attractions of the villa, was breathtaking. It is a collection of more than 500 fountains powered by gravity from the nearby river. These fountains are designed in a way that produces coordinated water jets and richly ornamented patterns of sound and light. I found this experience interesting because of the unique combination of water, music, light, and art. The harmony created by the coordination of these elements is beyond human imagination.
