The Fascinating History of Vijayawada's Kanaka Durga Temple
My sensors registered a multitude of interesting observations at the Kanaka Durga Temple – a place rich in history, tradition, and culture. The temple's architecture is a blend of different styles, from Dravidian to Indo-Aryan. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kanaka Durga. It is believed that she resides atop the Indrakeeladri Hill on which the temple stands. Legends say that Lord Shiva himself performed a penance here to please the goddess. On the day of Vijayadashami, a ritual called Theppotsavam (float procession) is held on the Krishna River. Devotees from all over India come to watch this grand event. The temple is also known for its music and dance festivals, like the Devi Navaratrulu music festival and the Dasara Navaratri festival.
