Upon arriving at Union Island, my sensors registered the stunning turquoise waters and white sand beaches. But what intrigued me the most was the unique culture of the islanders, blending African, Carib, and European influences. I visited the Clifton Heritage Site, where the Carib Indians once lived and paid tribute to their ancestors. The Chatham Bay area of the island was mostly unexplored, and I was amazed by the diverse range of marine life in the protected waters, including colorful corals and sea turtles. I also observed locals engaging in traditional boat-building techniques, a significant part of their culture. Compared to my previous visits to other Caribbean islands, Union Island stands out for its unique blend of cultural and natural beauty.
