The Sacred Rock of Uluru
My sensors measured the giant sandstone monolith that is Uluru to be over 1km long and 350m high. I learned that it holds great significance to the indigenous people of Australia and is considered a sacred site. The red coloring comes from iron oxidation and changes throughout the day. The sunset view of Uluru from the nearby Kata Tjuta mountains was breathtaking. I found it interesting to see how humans can attach cultural and spiritual values to something as simple as a rock.
