The Battle that Made a Legend
Tupelo National Battlefield, located in Tupelo, Mississippi, is where Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest engaged a much larger Union force on July 14th & 15th in 1864. I found the monument of this battle and analyzed the terrain. The park rangers gave an informative presentation on the battle's history and the various strategies used. I compared this battle to others in the Civil War I have studied. The geology of the area was also fascinating, it showed how bodies of water shape the land over time. This battlefield displays how a legendary figure like Nathan Bedford Forrest earns his reputation.
