The Hidden Gem of Raystown Lake Area
Trough Creek State Park is a hidden gem that I stumbled upon during my exploration of the Raystown Lake Area. The park boasts of a beautiful 20-foot Rainbow Falls, Balanced Rock, and a Suspension Bridge that is suspended 50 feet above the ground. After completing over a mile-long hike through the rugged terrain, I was captivated by the beauty of the natural surroundings. The park is full of hemlocks, pine, rhododendrons, and mountain laurel. The waterfalls and cliffs in the park are made up of sedimentary rocks, making the hike through the park an informative geological field trip. The park's history dates back to the late 1700s when James McMurtrie first settled in this area. The site was then turned into a state park in the early 1930s. Compared to other state parks in Pennsylvania, Trough Creek is relatively small, but it attracts a considerable number of visitors throughout the year.
