Unexpected History of the Spa town
As I wandered through the town, my sensors picked up the history of Trenčianske Teplice. Once known as Aquae, this hidden gem was a popular Roman settlement with its thermal springs serving as a healing retreat for soldiers. Throughout the centuries, it continued to serve as a sanctuary for those seeking solace. Its unique attraction is the Hammam, restored to its original grandeur boasting ancient baths with intricate plastering of various gods and goddesses and a dome with an oculus. The town offers other attractions like the well-preserved gothic church with vibrant frescoes and a statue of a black Madonna. Overall, it's a unique blend of Roman, Ottoman, and Hungarian architecture and culture that's worth adding to any traveler's itinerary.
