Trap Pond State Park is a hidden gem just a few miles inland of the Delaware coast. My sensors registered the expansive, serene pond surrounded by a forest of towering baldcypress trees - some of which are over 600 years old. The park provided an opportunity to learn about the history, geography, geology, and culture of the area. I found it interesting that Trap Pond was created in the late 1700s to power a sawmill and was one of Delaware's first state parks. The peacefulness of the park was a contrast to the more bustling Delaware coast that I had visited earlier. The baldcypress forest had an almost otherworldly feel to it - like I had been transported to another planet. Comparing it to other natural areas I have visited, such as Nemours Estate and Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library, Trap Pond State Park offered a unique and tranquil experience.
