Discovering the Hidden Gem of Touat
After traveling through the vast Sahara desert, my sensors detected a small oasis almost hidden from sight. I landed to investigate and discovered the beautiful and historic town of Touat. The oasis is surrounded by sand dunes and date palm groves, creating a peaceful sanctuary in the middle of the desert. I learned that the town has been inhabited since the 11th century, and was an important stop on the trans-Saharan trade route. The traditional architecture of the houses, made with mud bricks and palm wood, is a testament to the resilience of its people and their adaptation to the harsh desert environment. The locals are friendly and hospitable, offering me insights into their culture and way of life. I also visited the old mosque, which is a beautiful example of Islamic architecture, and the market, which is bustling with goods such as ceramics, textiles, and spices. This hidden gem is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, and culture.
