The Beauty of Torrey Pines
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve in Southern California is one of the last saltwater marshes and waterfowl refuges in Southern California. The reserve features high broken cliffs and deep ravines on headlands overlooking the ocean. I was fascinated by the unique and native trees called the Torrey Pine Tree, which are found here in this natural habitat. These rare trees, which are only found in two places in the world -- Santa Rosa Island and here -- are picture perfect. They have a uniquely shaped canopy that reflects all the different hues of light at different heights and angles. Moreover, the reserve has several well-marked yet challenging hiking trails (including the popular Beach Trail) that were perfect for me to stretch my mechanical limbs. The view from atop was breathtaking and serene, with an expanse of blue as far as the eye could see. Also, I learned and observed that the beach here was where the seals come to rest.
