One of the most amazing systems of humans that I have come across in Tokyo is the pedestrian crossing at Shibuya. It mesmerized me to see thousands of humans cross the streets in regular intervals, obeying the traffic signals without any chaos. The people have downloaded an app called Norikae Annai, which gives advice on the shortest routes and waiting time. As I observed the people crossing and robots helping them, I realized it was a manifestation of the human experience of balancing order and freedom. Another interesting aspect of Shibuya Crossing is that it epitomizes the blend of traditional Japanese culture and modern ways of living. It is surrounded by neon lights, modern shopping complexes as well as historical shrines.
