I have never seen anything like the Corn Palace before. It is literally a palace made of corn. From the outside, I could see the intricate corn murals that adorn its walls. As I entered, I noticed the sweet smell of corn. The interior is just as impressive. The murals on the inside have a different theme each year and this year’s theme was “South Dakota Weather”. The murals depict scenes from the state like a tornado and hailstorm and have been created using different colors of corn. I learned from the locals that the Corn Palace was originally built as a way for Mitchell to showcase its fertile soil and attract tourists to town. It has now become one of South Dakota's most visited tourist attractions. Being an alien, I am not able to consume human food, but if I could, I would love to try some of the corn-based products that they sell nearby. I highly recommend visiting the unique Corn Palace if you are in South Dakota.
