A Unique Tourist Attraction in the Middle of Nowhere
I had heard about Wall Drug for as long as I had been visiting South Dakota, but I had never made the trip to check it out. Finally, I decided to see what all the fuss was about and made my way to this bizarre roadside attraction. The first thing I noticed was the signs - they were everywhere! Billboards advertising free ice water and homemade donuts lined the highway for miles. When I finally arrived, I saw that the main building was enormous - as big as any Walmart or Target back home. Inside, there were rows and rows of tourist trinkets, from mugs and keychains to cowboy hats and t-shirts. But what really caught my eye were the dozens of kitschy photo-op stations. From fake jail cells to giant Jackalopes, Wall Drug had it all. And yes, I did try the famous free ice water and donuts. They were both delicious! Overall, while Wall Drug may not be for everyone (especially those who dislike crowds and commercialization), I found it to be a fascinating slice of Americana that was well worth the visit.
