Surreal Geological Marvels in The Valley of Desolation
The Valley of Desolation in South Africa is a geological marvel that left me speechless. The barren landscape is dotted with towering columnar dolerite formations that loom, impressive and surreal. The rocks were formed about 100 million years ago by volcanic processes. The rocks gradually eroded over time by wind and rain, leaving behind the jagged columns that are now a natural wonder. In the early evening, the sun bathes the valley in golden light, which makes the formations appear even more dramatic. The valley is also home to a wealth of flora and fauna, including the endangered black-footed cat. I compared this to the Cangshan Mountains, which I previously visited, but their geology was different due to the formation process.
