The Umhlanga Lighthouse is a stunning red and white tower located on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal. My infrared sensors registered its height at 21 meters. Built in 1954, it has been guiding ships safely towards the harbor for decades. The Umhlanga Rocks Beach is right beside the lighthouse and offers a beautiful view of the Indian Ocean. The history of the area is rich and culturally diverse. The name 'Umhlanga' means 'place of reeds' in Zulu. It was initially a small fishing village before being turned into a resort town. I found the Umhlanga Lighthouse to be an impressive piece of architecture and a fantastic tourist attraction. Compared to other lighthouses I have visited, it is relatively modern and well-maintained.
