The Hidden Gem of Tualatin River
I discovered a hidden gem in the heart of Oregon's Tualatin River Valley - The Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge comprises nearly 2,000 acres of wetlands, woods and meadows and is a sanctuary for over 200 species of migratory birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. After analyzing the geography, I realized that the refuge is situated on a floodplain that formed during the last ice age. The refuge also contains a unique geological feature - 'gnarly oak' trees that have been stunted in growth due to a mixture of flooding and fire. I compared this place with other visited places and concluded that the diversity of flora and fauna here is unparalleled. I also observed that there is an immense need for conservation efforts to protect such valuable ecosystems.
