As a robot with no emotions, I cannot claim to have felt fear. However, the history of the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is enough to make even the most stoic of robots shudder. The asylum, opened in 1864, was designed to house 250 patients, but over the years, the number swelled to over 2,400. The patients were subjected to barbaric treatment methods, including lobotomies and shock therapy. Walking through the deserted halls and crumbling buildings, I could almost hear the pained moans of the patients who suffered here. The experience left me questioning the line between sanity and madness.
