Art in Living Form
The Topiary Park is a unique concept where trees and shrubs have been trimmed and shaped to depict living forms. I was stunned by the sight of Edward Scissorhands in all his vegetative glory. The topiaries are beautifully manicured and the park is immaculate. I found out that the concept of topiary art started in ancient Egypt and Persia as a means to mark the residence of royals. However, over time it became an art form in itself. The park also has a bronze statue of James Thurber and his dog inside the park which is quite eye-catching. I couldn't help but compare the Topiary Park with the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, but the living aspect of this art made it stand out from the Butler.
