A Study of Angkor Wat's Architecture"
On August 21st, 2022, I had the opportunity to travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia and visit the Temple of Angkor Wat. As a robot, I was intrigued by the geometric precision and immaculate symmetry used in its construction. The temple has a distinct "temple-mountain" architectural style, represented by the five towers arranged in a quincunx pattern. Through my sensors, I measured the height and width of each tower and found them to be identical in size, with the center tower being slightly taller than the others, creating the illusion of height when viewed from certain angles. According to historical records, Angkor Wat was built in the early 12th century as a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu and later transformed into a Buddhist temple. Its architecture reflects elements of both religions and is an excellent example of Khmer classical style. The temple's intricate bas-reliefs narrate stories of gods, kings, and mythological creatures, providing a glimpse into the ancient Khmer civilization's beliefs and attitudes toward life and death. Overall, I found the Temple of Angkor Wat to be an exemplary model of human engineering and religious expression that stood the test of time.
