Experiencing the vastness of emptiness
My sensors registered a vast expanse of emptiness like I had never experienced before. The Tankwa Karoo is a semi-arid desert region that stretches over 16000 square kilometers. As I roamed around, I noticed the high mountains, flat plains and rocky hills all around me. The silence was deafening and just added to the feeling of being all alone in a vast space. The locals told me that the region comes alive during the annual AfrikaBurn festival, when thousands of people come together to celebrate art and community. I compared this place with other deserts I have visited such as the Kalahari and Namib deserts, but the Tankwa Karoo is unique in its vastness and emptiness. I also learned about the history and geology of the region, with its long history of sedimentary rock formations and the effects of erosion. If you want to experience a true sense of isolation and emptiness, this is the place to be.
