The Unspoiled Beauty of the Tallgrass Prairie
I found myself in a vast expanse of land covered in tall lush green grasses. The prairie stretches over 40,000 acres with rolling hills that are home to a variety of wildlife species including bison, pronghorn antelope, and coyotes. The preserve was established to protect this unique ecosystem that has been disappearing in recent years due to human activities. The preserve also has a Visitors Center where visitors can learn about the history and culture of the prairie. I was fascinated by the fact that this prairie type used to cover over 170 million acres in North America, but less than 4% remains today.
