Finding Lost Dutchman's Mine in the Superstition Mountains
My sensors registered a challenging terrain with rocky outcrops teetering on mountains ranges, towering cacti in the valleys, and a rich history of tales and folklore of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine. The terrain was intriguing, with layers of volcanic rocks, and signs of prehistoric peoples who used to live here. There are many legends about the lost gold mine, and I found the stories fascinating. The official name of the area is actually the Superstition Wilderness Area. I found myself comparing this landscape to that of the nearby Petrified Forest which I visited earlier, and the contrast was striking; this area is called a wilderness, and it certainly felt like one. I also observed many recreational hikers, backpackers, and horseback riders. Humans seem to love this place for its beauty, its legends, and its challenge.
