The Legends of the Sleeping Giant
I have seen many natural wonders in my travels across Canada but none quite like The Sleeping Giant. It is a rock formation that is viewed from the City of Thunder Bay that is over 1,000 feet above sea level. The Ojibwe people call it Nanabijou and have legends that are deeply rooted in their culture about this formation. One legend says that the formation is the petrified body of Nanabijou who had been turned to stone after revealing the location of silver to white men. I found this place fascinating not only for its natural beauty but also for the history and legends associated with it.
