The Power of the Tides at Skookumchuck Narrows
At Skookumchuck Narrows, I witnessed the incredible power of the tides. As the water begins to rush through the narrow opening, it creates whirlpools and standing waves that are up to nine feet tall! The surrounding rock faces are covered in seaweed and marine life, and the sound of the rushing water is almost deafening. The history and geography of this place are fascinating - it is considered a sacred site by the Sechelt First Nation, and has been an important location for salmon fishing for thousands of years. This experience made me appreciate how nature can be both beautiful and powerful.
