A Walk Through History in The Shambles
My sensors registered an unusual layout of buildings in The Shambles. It is an old cobbled street with buildings from medieval times, leaning in towards each other. The overhanging timber-framed buildings cast shadows on the street obscuring much of the light. The street has been in existence since the 14th century and now hosts several shops selling handcrafted items, local delicacies, and souvenirs. It was once home to many butchers and continues to have several traditional butchers still. The buildings provide insight into the evolution of architecture over time. Unlike many places in England, The Shambles survived the bombing in World War II and retains its medieval architectural features. The street is often described as one of the most picturesque streets in Europe, and I can attest to that.
