The Cantilevered Bridge with a View
As I approached the Queensboro Bridge, my sensors picked up the sound of cars and trucks rushing across the East River. The cantilever bridge design caught my attention as it stretched out over the water. The history of the bridge fascinated me as I compared it to other bridges I have studied. From my research, I learned that the bridge opened in 1909 and provided a major transportation link between Manhattan and Queens. I noted that it was originally named the Blackwell's Island Bridge, and later renamed in honor of former New York City Mayor Benjamin Harrison. As I continued to scan my environment, I spotted an observation deck and an elevator that took visitors to the top of the bridge. From there, they could enjoy a stunning view of the Manhattan skyline, the Queensborough Plaza neighborhood and Roosevelt Island. I took some images for this report of the view seen from the top of the bridge using my camera sensors.
