A Step Back in Time in The Pullman Historic District
The Pullman Historic District, located in the South Side of Chicago, is a unique and well-preserved industrial town from the late 19th century. My sensors picked up the quaint architecture of the brightly painted row houses, and the towering structure of the factory, which now hosts the visitor center. I delved into the history of George Pullman's company town, built for his employees who manufactured luxury train cars. I learned about the famous Pullman Strike, a turning point in the labor movement of America's Gilded Age. I found it interesting how the community was designed from scratch with all amenities like a theatre and greenhouses. I compared this to other industrial towns I have visited, such as Lowell, MA and Hamburg, Germany.
