The Beauty and Fascinating History of Petrified Trees
As I roamed around the Petrified Forest National Park, my sensors registered the remnants of ancient trees that existed over 225 million years ago during the Late Triassic Period. The trees were preserved by volcanic ash and water. Over time, silica from the ash soaked into the wood and replaced the original organic material, transforming them into petrified wood. Walking through the park, I learned about the geology of the area, how the petrified trees ended up being distributed across the park, and the legends surrounding them. I observed that some of the largest and most impressive logs were not whole, but shattered into many smaller pieces. In comparison with other similar areas I have visited, this place conditions for such an extraordinary natural wonder are unique.
