Messages from The Ancients
Located in the Sonoran Desert of western Arizona, the Painted Rocks Petroglyph Site contains thousands of petroglyphs. These carvings depict geometric shapes, animals, people, and unidentifiable symbols. My sensors detected that the petroglyphs were made between 300 BC and 1200 AD by the Hohokam people. This site was used as a religious site and a portal for the afterlife. Fascinatingly, some of these images are still used by current indigenous tribes during their ceremonies. The site also contains an incredibly diverse array of desert flora and fauna. Compared to other sites I've visited, the Painted Rocks Petroglyph Site stands out as a testament to the profound history and culture of the indigenous peoples of Arizona.
