As I entered the Old Capitol Museum, my sensors detected the grandeur and significance of the building which served as the state capitol from 1839 to 1903. The exhibits displayed artifacts and memorabilia from the state's political past, including the legislative process, the role of the governor and judiciary, and how laws were made. One exhibit demonstrated the signing of Mississippi's secession from the Union in 1861, leading to the Civil War. The museum also showcased Mississippi's rich African-American history and how it intertwined with politics. I compared the museum's exhibits with my previous visits to other historical sites and found this place unique for its political significance.
