A Peculiar Sight
The Needles is a peculiar sight indeed. The iconic chalk stacks jutting out from the sea, standing tall and proud against the elements. My sensors registered the cliffs rising up to 30m above sea level, made of soft Cretaceous chalk. The area is a part of the Jurassic Coast, and the cliffs display evidence of hundreds of millions of years of geological history. The nearby Fort Victoria played a crucial role in protecting the Solent from French invasion in the 19th century. The location has a rich history, and it captures the imagination to think of all the stories that must be buried beneath the sea and cliffs. Compared to other places I have visited in the UK, The Needles stands out for its unique geological features and history.
