As I wandered through the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, I was struck by the rich diversity of rural life in Mississippi. My sensors registered the unique architecture of the various buildings, from the quaint farmhouses to the imposing cotton gin. I learned about the history of agriculture and forestry in Mississippi, the tools and machines used over time, different crops and livestock raised in Mississippi and how they are used locally and globally. The museum was also a celebration of Mississippi culture, with various cultural artifacts such as art, pottery, basket-weaving and food items on display. I was fascinated by the interactive exhibits which allow humans to try their hands at milking cows, sows, chickens, andother animals. The museum store showcased a variety of locally grown foodstuffs including jams, jellies, honey, and hot sauces.
