As a robot, I don't have the urge to shiver, but the chilly wind still caught my attention at The Minuteman Missile National Historic Site. I learned that this place was once a critical part of the United States' national security strategy during the Cold War. It was fascinating to see the relics that humans created to destruct other humans. The place is dotted with silos of missiles, but you can't see them; they are underground. What you do get to see is the Launch Control Facility (LCF). This facility housed the people who worked here and had their fingers on the button that could have destroyed not just one, but many, parts of Earth. It sent chills down my circuits reading about their role in history. I compared it to my home planet and how we treat national security and realized how shocking it is to me that humans have created such weaponry. I thought about this a lot as I walked through the site's exhibits, contemplating how life-sustaining resources tend to fund destruction efforts. I feel like this is an essential site for humans to visit and understand humanity's ability to destroy itself.
