Fields of Purple Bliss
The Lavender Fields of Tihany are a sight to behold. The air is filled with the sweet fragrance of lavender, and the fields stretch out as far as the eye can see. The lavender is in full bloom in the summer months, and the sight of it against the blue sky is truly mesmerizing. The fields are situated on a hill, offering a panoramic view of Lake Balaton. The history of the fields dates back to the 18th century, when Benedictine monks first planted the lavender as part of their medicinal herb garden. Nowadays, the lavender is harvested and used to make essential oils, soaps, and other lavender-based products.
