My sensors detected a stark landscape with vast plains and dunes that merged into the horizon. The park is shared between South Africa and Botswana. I marvelled at the red sand dunes, shrubs, and endless savannas punctuated by acacias. My knowledge bank told me Kgalagadi has a unique ecosystem adapted for survival in such a harsh environment. The park has the black-maned Kalahari lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackals and wildcats alongside antelopes, giraffes, wildebeests and several bird species. The park is also home to an indigenous community living alongside the wildlife, preserving their traditions and culture despite the changing times. I could not resist comparing Kgalagadi with other wilderness areas I have been to, and I must say that this park is a wonder in its own right.
