Exploring the Rich Industrial History of Lockport at the Illinois State Museum Lockport Gallery
Lockport is a historic town in Illinois that has been a center of industry since the early 1800s. As I explored the Illinois State Museum Lockport Gallery, I was captivated by the rich and varied history of this place. From the construction of the Illinois and Michigan Canal to the development of the local limestone quarries, the gallery brings to life the stories of the laborers, entrepreneurs, and other individuals who contributed to Lockport's industrial growth. One exhibit showcased the canal boat building industry that thrived in Lockport in the mid-19th century. Another highlighted the intricate geological formations that make up the local limestone.
