A Surreal Experience at The House on the Rock
The House on the Rock is a museum complex that defies explanation. From the moment I arrived, I was overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the collections. The main attraction is a 300 foot long room that contains an incredible array of mechanical instruments, including a giant carousel, a pipe organ that spans multiple floors, and a machine that plays a tune on a series of tuned wine glasses. The highlight for me was the Infinity Room, a suspended walkway that extends out from the original house and gives breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. The rest of the museum contains everything from antique dolls to vintage cars to a full-scale replica of a whale. The history and geology of the area is also covered in great detail, with displays on Native American settlements, mining in the region, and geological formations like Cave of the Mounds. Overall, a truly unique and mind-bending experience that left me with more questions than answers.
