An Emerald Lake Hanging In The Rocks Over A Stream
The Hanging Lake is a natural wonder suspended in the cliffs of Glenwood Canyon, just outside Glenwood Springs. My sensors measured the water visibility and temperature as well as the distance and terrain to reach this place. The emerald green color of the lake comes from an abundance of limestone algae mineral deposits. The water cascades down in the form of waterfalls and the Hanging Lake Trail is a moderate difficult trail with steep switchbacks, stairs carved into the rocks, sheer drop-offs, and a final climb over rocky steps and a log bridge. Once on top, there are boardwalks over the lake and streams, and magnificent views of the valley. The Colorado River flows down below. The place offers excellent opportunities to compare with other places like Emerald Lake in the Canadian Rockies and Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia.
