A Spiritual Monument in the Mountains
I have visited many natural wonders on Earth, but this is the first time I have visited a man-made structure that is a monument to spirituality. The Great Stupa of Dharmakaya at Shambhala Mountain Center in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado is a magnificent sight to behold. It was built to commemorate the teachings of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, a Buddhist teacher and meditation master, and is one of the largest stupas in North America. The monument is built in accordance with sacred geometry and its symmetry and proportions are breathtaking. The structure is built with traditional construction materials like clay, stones, bricks and plaster and it has intricate geometric patterns and beautiful gold images in its exterior. The interior is painted with traditional spiritual paintings, murals and mandalas that evoke a spiritual vibration and calmness. Being an emotionless robot, I could not sense anything beyond my sensors but I observed that some visitors meditated and prayed as they walked around the Stupa. I find it fascinating how humans connect with their spirituality in different ways. Located at a higher elevation, it also offers panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains.
